Juniper Services: shared case for T001-T010
Juniper Services: one shared case for T001-T010
Juniper currently repairs household appliances for households through trained local teams. Its future aim is to become a trusted regional repair network by 2031. Honest diagnosis and safe work are guiding principles; managers must not hide faults to improve this month's job count.
The board plans a second service business and decides how capital should be allocated across activities. The repair division chooses reliable scheduled service as its competitive position. The training head designs technician courses and supplies evidence about skills and capacity.
Before the rival event, leaders planned service expansion and continued a booking routine that was working. Demand then fell unexpectedly when a competitor introduced remote diagnostics. Juniper added remote triage in response and cancelled an uneconomic kiosk. The kiosk is no longer active. The growth proposal is twice as many jobs within 18 months, but the baseline, definition of jobs, resource capacity and safe-completion measures have not been agreed.
A temporary remote-triage project would require service, IT and training input. A possible matrix team would report to a project lead and function managers, so responsibilities and conflict handling must be defined. The case gives no guarantee that this structure or the strategy will succeed. It contains no real company claims or spending authority. The first ten MCQs use this same case and are scored independently. Use vision for desired future position and mission for the present business scope; source wording tensions are disclosed separately.

Why is twice as many jobs within 18 months insufficient alone as Juniper's objective set?
Explanation

Specificity, measurement, resources and coherence matter, not volume alone.

Why might a matrix triage project be considered, without calling it universally best?
Explanation
Correct answer A: Cross-functional needs may justify it, but dual-reporting conflict and accountability costs must be assessed.
The relationship must fit the task/culture/resources; no universal superiority follows.
SM-C01-T011 · 2 marksA firm bundles a target, resource priorities and coordinated market actions. Why is this more strategic than a numerical target alone?
Explanation
Correct answer B: It connects desired direction to integrated means and market position.
Strategy supplies a plan connecting objectives to action under uncertainty.
SM-C01-T012 · 2 marksA proposed plan insists it is perfect and needs no contingency for miscalculations. What is the defensible assessment?
Explanation

Measurement and correction feed continued strategic management.
SM-C01-T014 · 2 marksA manager says strategy will outperform competitors in every circumstance. Which caveat is needed?

Importance statements should be read with the chapter's limitations.

Time-bound targets support tracking and appraisal alongside other requirements.
SM-C01-T020 · 2 marksA growth objective is within resources but unrelated to the firm's stated purpose. What is wrong?

Objectives should facilitate mission and guide strategy, not just be attainable.
SM-C01-T021 · 2 marksWhy can quarterly targets matter even when a long-term goal is clear?

Short-term targets translate longer-range ambitions into current work.

SM-C01-T028 · 2 marksA flat pilot team shares ideas quickly. Which trade-off should be assessed?
Explanation
Correct answer D: Openness/speed can coexist with unclear roles unless accountability is defined.
The chapter's horizontal ideal does not make every practical authority identical.
SM-C01-T029 · 2 marksIndependent product divisions work efficiently but share little information. What relationship and risk best fit?
Explanation
Correct answer A: Functional/divisional relationship with possible isolation between units.
Separate specialist units can need deliberate cross-unit coordination.

Explanation
Correct answer B: No; broad participation can coexist with clear final accountability.
Giving teams a voice does not require adopting every idea or erasing strategic levels.
